What Are Pearly Penile Papules?

Pearly penile papules, often shortened to PPP, are small, smooth, pearly bumps that sit in one or two neat rows around the rim of the glans, with no itching, pain or discharge. Doctors also call them hirsuties papillaris genitalis. The cause is not known, and they are a normal anatomical variation. They are harmless are pearly penile papules dangerous not an infection, not sexually transmitted, not contagious and not caused by hygiene. Online you may also see them called ppp penile papules or pearly papules.

Luxembourg is a multilingual country, so you may know them by another name. In French they are papules perlées du gland (pearly papules of the glans), and in German perlige Penispapeln. Visible sebaceous glands, called glandes sébacées in French and Talgdrüsen am Penis in German, are a different harmless variation known as Fordyce spots. German speakers can also read our German language guide Hornzipfel (PPP) Treatment: Why German Patients Travel to the UK for Pearly Penile Papule Removal?

Is It PPP or Something Else?

ConditionTypical AppearanceUsually Harmful?
Pearly Penile Papules Small, even bumps in rows around the rim of the glans No, a normal variant
Fordyce spots Small visible sebaceous glands, often paler No, a normal variant
Genital warts Irregular or rough growths that can spread Can be sexually transmitted
Molluscum contagiosum Small raised bumps with a central dimple Can spread by contact

PPP is diagnosed by looking, so a clinical assessment is the safest way to be sure. Our guides to white bumps on the penis and to PPP vs Fordyce spots  explain the differences in more detail. If a bump is painful, bleeds, forms a sore or appeared suddenly, see a doctor promptly rather than assuming it is PPP.

Do You Need Treatment for Pearly Penile Papules?

No. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, PPP treatment is a personal, cosmetic choice and not a medical necessity. In French you may see it described as traitement des papules perlées du gland, and in German as Behandlung perliger Penispapeln. Men choose removal for confidence, appearance, comfort with a partner or peace of mind. It should always follow assessment by a qualified clinician, never a diagnosis from photographs or online searches alone.

Your Journey From Luxembourg to Leamington Spa

Luxembourg to Leamington Spa at renew skin and health clinic

The journey is simple: Luxembourg to a UK airport, then on to Renew Skin and Health Clinic at 18 Guy Street, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, CV32 4RT. Leamington Spa is in the middle of England and is well connected by rail.

Option 1: Fly to London

Flight trackers show direct flights from Luxembourg Airport to London, including Heathrow, London City and Stansted, with flying time of around 1 hour 15 minutes. Check current schedules on the Luxembourg Airport website   From your London airport, travel into central London to London Marylebone, where Chiltern Railways runs direct trains to Leamington Spa, usually taking around 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 30 minutes. From the station, a taxi to the clinic takes around 10 minutes.

Option 2: Fly to Birmingham

Birmingham Airport is the closest major airport to the clinic. We do not list a direct Luxembourg to Birmingham flight, so this route usually needs one connection at another European airport. From Birmingham, take the train to Leamington Spa, then a taxi of around 10 minutes to the clinic.
Please check train times and fares on National Rail.

Plan Your UK Visit by messaging the clinic before you book travel, so your appointment is confirmed first.

UK Entry and ETA Information

Luxembourg citizens have needed an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for short visits to the UK since 2 April 2025. Other nationalities living in Luxembourg may need an ETA or a visa, depending on their passport. The fee was £20 at the time of writing, and it is sensible to apply at least three working days before you travel. UK entry requirements can change, so check the latest guidance on GOV.UK.

How to Arrange Your PPP Treatment Before Travelling

StepWhat Happens
Step 1 Message Renew Skin and Health Clinic on WhatsApp, by phone or by email.
Step 2 Discuss your concerns and speak to Dr Jha online, where available.
Step 3 Agree on your appointment date and treatment price.
Step 4 Book your flights and accommodation, and apply for your Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).
Step 5 Attend the clinic for an assessment and confirmation of your diagnosis. Treatment can proceed where appropriate and with your agreement.
Step 6 Receive written aftercare instructions and follow-up support after you return home.

If you would rather not write the first message yourself, you can start with this one:
“Hello, I am contacting you from Luxembourg about pearly penile papule treatment. I am considering travelling to Renew Skin and Health Clinic in Leamington Spa, UK. Could you please explain the consultation process, the treatment options, the total costs and how I should plan my visit?”

What Happens During Your Visit?

After a private consultation, a topical anaesthetic is applied and treatment is carried out by CO2 laser, radiosurgery or hyfrecation. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes, with around 90 minutes in the clinic in total. Same day treatment may be possible following consultation and assessment, so confirm your plans in advance and keep your travel flexible in case an overnight stay is advised.

Possible Risks and Side Effects

PPP removal is a medical procedure, and Dr Jha will go through the risks with you before you decide. Common, temporary effects include mild redness, slight swelling and tenderness for 24 to 48 hours. Less common risks include infection, bleeding, changes in skin colour and scarring, which is why following the aftercare advice matters. Read more in our guide Is There a Safe Treatment for Pearly Penile Papules? .

Aftercare When You Return to Luxembourg

Good aftercare matters even more when you are travelling. You will receive clear written aftercare instructions, guidance on what to expect as you heal, the clinic contact details with WhatsApp communication where provided, and structured follow up support for one month. If you have a concern after returning home, message the clinic on WhatsApp and the team will guide you. Remote advice cannot replace an in person examination, so if you develop symptoms that need urgent assessment, seek local medical attention straight away. In an emergency in Luxembourg, call 112.

Results, Expectations and the Lifetime Guarantee

No treatment can promise a specific result, and healing varies from person to person, so Dr Jha will explain realistic expectations at your consultation. Papules can return in some men, and good evidence on how often this happens is limited, and you can read more on whether PPP can be removed permanently . If PPP does return, the clinic offers free retreatment under its lifetime guarantee, subject to the clinic terms. The guarantee covers retreatment, and it is not a promise that PPP can never return.

How to Get Rid of PPP Safely

If you are wondering how to get rid of PPP at home, the safest answer is that you should not. Acid creams, wart treatments, scraping, squeezing and home devices can cause infection, scarring and pigmentation changes. Professional treatment after a clinical assessment is the safe route, and our guide on whether PPP removal creams work explains why.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1) Can I travel from Luxembourg to the UK for PPP treatment, and which airport should I use?

Yes. Flight trackers show direct flights from Luxembourg Airport to London, so most patients fly to London and take a direct train from London Marylebone to Leamington Spa. Birmingham Airport is closer, but we do not list a direct Luxembourg to Birmingham flight. Please check current schedules before you book.

    2) How much does PPP removal cost in the UK?

Treatment starts from £625 for hyfrecation, £875 for radiosurgery and £1,075 for CO2 laser. Each price includes the consultation, required medications, structured aftercare and the lifetime guarantee. Prices are in pounds sterling, so check the euro equivalent on the day you book. Flights and accommodation are additional, and weekends and bank holidays add £75 for the consultation and £150 for the procedure.

    3) Do I need an ETA to travel from Luxembourg to the UK?

In most cases, yes. Luxembourg citizens have needed an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for short visits to the UK since 2 April 2025, and other nationalities living in Luxembourg should check their own passport requirements. The fee was £20 at the time of writing. Please check GOV.UK before you travel, because the rules can change.

    4) Can I arrange a consultation before booking flights?

Yes, and we recommend it. Message the clinic on WhatsApp at +44 1926 422 454, agree your appointment date, and then book travel around it. A free online consultation with Dr Jha is generally available between 7pm and 9pm GMT, 7 days a week, once you have connected on WhatsApp. Luxembourg is one hour ahead of the UK, so this is 8pm to 10pm in Luxembourg.

    5) Can I have treatment and return to Luxembourg on the same day?

Same day treatment may be possible following consultation and assessment, where it is clinically appropriate and you are happy to proceed. It is not right for everyone, so confirm your plan with the clinic first and keep your travel flexible in case Dr Jha advises an overnight stay.

    6) Is PPP removal painful, and how long is recovery?

A topical anaesthetic is used before treatment, and many patients describe mild discomfort rather than pain, although every patient is different. Expect mild redness, slight swelling and tenderness for 24 to 48 hours. Most patients return to normal activities within 24 hours, and Dr Jha will advise you individually.

    7) Is PPP removal permanent, and can it cause scarring?

Recurrence is uncommon after professional treatment. If PPP does return, the clinic offers free retreatment under its lifetime guarantee, subject to the clinic terms. It is not a promise that PPP can never return. As with any skin procedure, scarring or changes in skin colour are possible, which is why Dr Jha explains the risks and aftercare first.

    8) Is PPP an STI, and is it contagious?

No. Pearly penile papules are a harmless, natural variation. They are not an infection, not sexually transmitted, not linked to hygiene and cannot be passed on to a partner. Genital warts or molluscum contagiosum can look similar, so if you are unsure, a clinical assessment can tell you.

    9) What are pearly penile papules called in French and German?

In French they are usually called papules perlées du gland, and in German perlige Penispapeln. For treatment, men search for traitement des papules perlées du gland in French or Behandlung perliger Penispapeln in German. Visible sebaceous glands, known as glandes sébacées in French and Talgdrüsen am Penis in German, are a different harmless variation called Fordyce spots.

    10) Do PPP removal creams or home remedies work?

No. Acid creams, wart treatments, scraping, squeezing and home devices can cause infection, scarring and pigmentation changes, and they do not safely remove PPP. If you want to get rid of PPP, professional treatment after a clinical assessment is the safe route.
