They result from overproduction of melanin pigments within the skin. Melanin is necessary for skin and hair colour. In general, freckles result from unprotected or under protected ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sun shine.

There are two main types of freckles that we normally come across and those are ephelides and solar lentigines. Ephelides are the most common type which most people think of freckles. Solar lentigines on the other hand are dark patches of skin in the sun exposed area which develops during adulthood. These includes freckles, age spots, and sunspots.

These are fairly common skin issues and can appear on anyone who don’t protect themselves from UV exposure. They commonly appear on the face, the back of the hands, and upper torso. This type of pigmentation tends to be most commonly seen amongst people with lighter skin tones and hair colour.
Solar letigines: Like ephelides, this type tends to commonly appear in Caucasians and in general adults who have passed 4th decade of their life.

Are these Treatable?
Yes, all types freckles are treatable but they need assessment by an expert and to exclude and serious skin issues and also to see their suitability for laser treatment at our clinic.
