What Are Fordyce Spots?

Fordyce spots are simply visible sebaceous (oil) glands. These glands are a normal part of your skin’s anatomy, but in this case, they are not associated with a hair follicle and appear in a visible, “ectopic” location.

They are NOT an STI. They are not infectious and cannot be passed on to a partner.
They are Harmless. They are a benign, anatomical variation and pose no risk to your physical health.
They are Common. A large percentage of the adult population has Fordyce spots, even if they are not always prominent.
