What is CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing?
It is a type of facial revitalization procedure which uses a laser to improve the skin texture and appearance. This procedure involves the precise removal of skin layer by layer. During the healing process, the new skin appears tighter, with a younger-looking surface. It can be done with:
- Ablative laser:Â where the laser removes the outer layer of skin (epidermis) and heats the underlying skin (dermis) with the growth of new collagen fibers. As the healing process ensues, the treated area appears smoother and tighter. This type of treatment includes carbon dioxide (CO2), erbium laser, and a combination system.
- Non-ablative laser:Â which stimulates the growth of collagen, which over time helps to improve skin tone and texture. This approach can be done with intense pulsed light (IPL) devices. Non-ablative laser treatment is less effective than ablative laser.
