What is Laser Tattoo Removal?

Laser treatment for tattoo removal works by generating a bean of laser light in a very short pulse. This pulse is absorbed by the tattoo ink particles, breaking them down into smaller sections. Your natural immune defences then absorb and disperse the ink.

What happens when I have my treatment for tattoo removal?

Our skin treatments specialist, will discuss your specific needs and devise a treatment programme for you in order to have the simplest and easiest tattoo removal procedure.

You will be given protective eyewear before the treatment starts. The device is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released. Treatment usually takes up to half an hour, depending on the size of the tattoo.

A series of treatments will be necessary to treat the tattoo. Treatments are once every 6–8 weeks.

Is laser tattoo removal treatment right for me?

If you have a tattoo that you would like removed then you are most certainly able to have this treatment. Our expert doctor will advise you in every case.

Any other Frequently Asked Questions regarding laser tattoo removal?

Is the laser tattoo removal procedure painful?
The treatment isn’t pain-free, but it is certainly tolerable and most people describe it as a hot pin prick sensation. At Renew we offer skin cooling devices to ease any discomfort during tattoo removal procedure.

How quickly will the tattoo fade from my skin?
The tattoo will fade after a series of treatments. A lot depends on the density of the colours used and the age of the tattoo. Older, faded tattoos can take between one and six treatments, whereas high-colour recent tattoos can take up to 15 treatments.

Are there any side effects for laser tattoo removal?
Rarely the skin may become lighter or darker and the texture might change. Scarring is possible after a laser tattoo removal procedure but usually only occurs where grazes are not given sufficient time to heal naturally.
